Glenns Bay Baptist Church’s (6 miles south of Myrtle Beach South Carolina) beginnings date back to the early 1980’s under the direction of a singing group, named “The Living Witness Singers.” This visionary group formed a worship team under the leadership of Reverend Burton Haselden. They met in a store front building in Surfside Beach and called themselves the “Living Witness Baptist Church.” They selected and

purchased the present site on Glenns Bay Road and through the generosity of Rossie Barfield also purchased a modular building used for worship and educational space.

   In September 1987, Glenns Bay Baptist Church was constituted. Reverend George H. Wallace was called as its first pastor. By 1989, Dr. Bob Teems was called to pastor a loving and growing congregation. Under the direction of Dr. Teems on December 16, 1992 work was completed and the present worship center and some educational space were dedicated. As the church continued to grow, by 2002 additional educational and office space were dedicated. After a successful pastoral ministry Dr. Bob Teems retired. By July 2006, Reverend Benjy Simmons was called as pastor to continue the legacy of a ministry well established for today and the furthering of ministry for the future.

   From the church’s inception, vision, prayer, planning, dedication and the doing of the work of ministry has been its trade-mark. God in His faithful provision and gracious bounty through the hands of His beloved has firmly rooted a church in the Surfside Beach area. The church is filled with some exciting challenges ahead as we continue to grow and look to expand our parking and building capacity to house the growing membership.

   The legacy and heritage of Glenns Bay Baptist Church has from its beginning included solid Scriptural teaching which has helped to develop men and women of God for the future. One of the unique characteristics of this Body in Christ is its diverse background of people that represent literally 29 States, 3 countries and at least 10 denominations. However the most impressionable quality is the amount of care-giving, prayer and openness expressed to and for one another.

   Glenns Bay Baptist Church has grown from a small group of 15 to a membership in the upper 500’s. Such growth is not by accident and its continual growth will be dependent on staying true to the basics of solid Scriptural teaching colored with the heart of compassion for all people.
